Supervised Visitation is focused on assuring that a child can safely have contact with an absent parent or family member without having to be in the middle of the conflict between the individuals or other problems. The child is the primary focus, ensuring their safety and wellbeing before, during, and after the visits.
Supervised Visits allow children to have a relationship with their other parent or family member without having to worry about what might happen, but allowing them to enjoy the time spent together is a safe environment. The child's guardian can feel comfortable knowing that their child will be kept safe while still allowing them an opportunity to have contact with their other parent or family member.
There are rules and guideline in place that everyone must follow which helps ensure the safety of the child, the guardian, and the visiting parent. Trained monitors will complete an intake and then the case is staffed to determine the best course of action and if any additional safety protocols are needed. During the visits the monitor stays with the children at all times, but is just in the room to observe the visit and maintain the healthy and conflict free environment. The guardian and visiting parents never see one another which also adds to the safety and conflict free environment.
Referrals come from family court orders but do not have to be ordered by the court. If you or someone you know could benefit from this service then please feel free to give us a call or email us for more information or if you would like a tour of our facility then just let us know.
I have been a resident of Fort Smith for 40 years, it is home.
I started as a volunteer at STEPS in 2020. I am now a full time Family Advocate, certified through Supervised Visitation Network. When I walked in the building I knew this is where I belonged. I have had the opportunity to meet and work with numerous families in our community, it brings me joy to be part of this amazing organization knowing that we are helping families reunify relationships. We not only offer support to the families we serve, but to each other as a team.
More about Robin coming soon.
